Sylvia Marie Pessemier was born on August 8, 1858 in Renaix (Ronse), Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium. She was the daughter of Charles Louis Pessemier and Justine Vallez. She married Vital DeDonder, son of Philippe Antoine DeDonder and Rosalie Derodere, on November 26, 1886 in Sandy Hook, Pottawatomie County, Kansas.1 She died on November 18, 1917 in St Marys, Pottawatomie County, Kansas, at age 59. She was buried in Mount Calvary Cemetary, St Marys, Pottawatomie County, Kansas.

She witnessed the baptism of John Baptiste DeBacker on September 16, 1900 in Immaculate Conception Church, St Marys, Pottawatomie County, Kansas.2
