John Newton Dobbs was born on April 29, 1826 in Elbert County, Georgia.1 He was the son of John Dobbs and Jane Haynes.
Between March 4, 1862 and July 5, 1863, John Newton Dobbs served in 40th Battalion, Georgia Infantry of Bartow County, Georgia. He held the rank of Captain. Bartow County was orginally called Cass County; the name change occurred in 1861.2
